HONOLULU (AP) -- The Obama administration is reporting what it calls "a welcome surge in enrollment" for health insurance in December.
The surge propelled health care sign-ups through the government's rehabilitated website past the 1 million mark. The majority were in the week before a pre-Christmas deadline for coverage to start in January.
Today's number is only partial, because the administration didn't provide an update on the 14 states running their own websites. California, New York, Washington, Kentucky and Connecticut have done well, but others are still struggling.
