Colorado WIC clinics and offices will remain open through October despite the federal government shutdown.
However, if the government shutdown doesn't end before the end of the month, the Colorado Department of Public Health says the program probably won't be able to serve people starting in November.
The only reason the program is still functioning now is reportedly because of funds that were saved during the last fiscal year and a small amount of money from the USDA.
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that helps women who are pregnant, nursing or have recently given birth, infants and young children.
In a news release, Patricia Daniluk, Nutrition Services Branch director for the department’s Prevention Services Division, says they are doing their best to "meet the nutritional needs of more than 95,000 woman and children..."
