What may be the most basic form of hygiene continues to be the key in preventing an H1N1 outbreak according to the El Paso County Health Department.

"Wash their hands, wash their hands,wash their hands," said Betty Dery, director of the Junior Academy in Colorado Springs. That's what her kids do every time they walk inside her facility and before they leave. "That's what we've always done," she said. Dery hopes her diligence in keeping the academy clean and sending kids home even if they simply have the sniffles will keep the Swine Flu away.

The El Paso County Health Department had a meeting with child care centers like The Junior Academy and schools across the county to advise them of what's going on with the virus. "Their intent wasn't to close down any centers," said Dery. "They just wanted to assist to make sure all the centers were aware." It's awareness that the health department hopes will prevent a major outbreak.

Betty Dery doesn't have any sick kids at her facility and she hopes to keep it that way. Meanwhile, one parent who brings her kids to the Junior Academy isn't worried just yet. "It depends on how bad it is," said Glynnita Quinones. "If more than one kid comes up with it I would probably be worried, but right now I'm not that worried."
