If you're spending time in the mountains this summer, you will need to watch out for ticks. Most are harmless. But they can carry diseases such as Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

So the folks with Colorado Springs Health Partners have these tips for you:

After you spend time in the mountains or heavily wooded areas, check for ticks behind knees and ears, under your arms, in the groin area and around your waist.

If you find one, here's what to do...

Use tweezers to grasp the tick firmly at its head or mouth. Pull steadily until the tick lets go.
Put the tick in a jar of rubbing alcohol. Then swab the bite area with rubbing alcohol. The doctors say never use petroleum jelly or a hot match to remove a tick.

If you do find a tick, contact your doctor. He or she may want you to save the tick after removal... So that it can be identified.
