Why The Video Looks Shaky (Don Ward)
Updated: 06/18/2013 - We did a quick helicopter tour of the Black Forest burn area. Someone asked why the video looks shaky.
When you talk about winter illnesses, you think of cold and flu. But the summer brings its own seasonal sickness... especially for toddlers.
Dr. Caroline Rowlands with Colorado Springs Health Partners is on the southwest side of town.
She says she expects to see a growing number of hand foot and mouth cases.
She tells us its a virus that causes pink bumps. Those bumps can show up anywhere, but especially on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. It can also cause a sore throat, blisters of the mouth and a fever.
Dr. Rowlands says the worst symptoms are within the first four days. They'll improve on their own. But since this is a virus, antibiotics won't help. Acetaminophen can help with the fever and any pain in the mouth.
Again, hand, foot and mouth disease most often affects toddlers, but it can happen at any age.
