Hooked - (Stacia Naquin)
Updated: 10/11/2013 - I'm SO CLOSE to being able to do a pull-up. So my trainer introduced something new into my training.
It was a life or death situation on a Pueblo school bus. When three faculty members used their first-aid training to save an autistic student who went into a sudden seizure.
Last week, on a bus ride back to Cedar Ridge Elementary from a school field trip, 8-year-old autistic student Trevor Pruitt went from zero to fever in a matter of minutes.
Trevor's rapid 104-degree spike in fever caused him to go into a seizure.
Steve Quick, one of the paraprofessionals on the bus, has been trained in CPR and first aid for 20 years. He says this is the first time hes ever had to use his training, and recommends every parent and teacher get certified.
"When you do take CPR and First Aid, take it seriously, because you never know when you'll need to use it...could be 20 years, like it was for me," says Quick.
Quick, along with the two other paraprofessionals, Kim Richardson and Alesia Ricks say they are grateful they had the training to save Trevor's life.
All three paraprofessionals are nominated for the National First Responder award, which is signed by President Bush.
They will also be receiving a Life Saving award signed by the CEO of Red Cross.
