Fort Carson is hosting an Armed Services Blood Program blood drive at the Special Events Center March 6 - 8 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Last year, the Colorado Springs community helped Fort Carson achieve its
goal and exceed any Armed Services blood drive in the past. Donors are
needed every day to save lives of troops overseas and service members
and their families at home. A single blood donation can save up to three
Latoya Lucas wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the donation she received.
"The blood drive blood saved my life," Lucas said.
She was hit by a grenade while serving in Iraq in 2003.
"I lost a lot of blood," Lucas said.
Lucas is now a Purple Heart recipient and retired in the Army but she's encouraging those who can to give.
Donors can schedule appointments online by visiting www.militaryblood.dod.mil and
clicking the blood drop button. Once an appointment is scheduled, donors
receive a confirmation notice.
To donate blood at Fort Carson, donors can go to the Special Events Center. To enter base gates, visitors must present a valid driver's license, registration and proof of insurance at Gate 1, off of Highway 115.
