Taylor Defeats Wills In Pueblo County Sheriff Race

Sheriff Kirk Taylor will serve another four years. Taylor defeated challenger Randy Wills by about 6,000 votes Tuesday.

The two men ran very different campaigns. Taylor focused on his accomplishments and how they fulfilled campaign promises he made four years ago. Wills, backed by some members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, took a more negative approach to Taylor's term in office attempting to prove Taylor's claims to be false.

By the end of the race, several deputies in the Sheriff's Office found themselves on opposite sides of a political line drawn in the sand. Strong feelings on who was the right candidate for the job boiled over on our own website. Vicious statements of opinion flowed like water from a busted dam, on a story we ran last week.

Now, though, the sheriff says they will put the past behind them. Unlike other elected offices, the Sheriff's office is not on a break. Taylor says, he and the county are in the middle of financial discussions for new equipment, and he says they are close to completing an unsolved homicide from earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Wills is going to go back to work at his private business. He says, his campaign did everything it could, and he wouldn't have done anything differently. "It just wasn't meant to be," says Wills.

The characterization by Native of "Taylor and his thugs" is more of the same vicious and vacuous comment that was created and fanned by the political opposition to Taylor. They have been on the low road so long they know no other words. Native could have made the same point without being so vicious and disrespectful. Move on - Grow up! Act like adults.

Attention KKTV - Please stay on top of this story. It is just a matter of time before you hear of RETALIATION against Sheriff Office staff for supporting Wills. I am sure Taylor and his thugs are digging hard and deep to justify reprimanding and or firing deputies who they believe supported Wills. The Pueblo Chieftain does not consider anything Taylor has done to be 'newsworthy', so the public is depending on you to bring it all out honestly.

Congratulations Sheriff Taylor..I would also like to congratulate Randy Wills for his campaign effort and wish him well....It is now back in your corner Sheriff Taylor and the residents you represent are counting on you to lead with bravery and integrity..I hope you and your employees will understand that you "all" work for the citizens; so try to maintain a positive working relationship for the safety and well-being of the public..(be glad you have a job and spend more time going after the "bad" guys/gals)..You've got the experience Sheriff, you won the votes, and it's obvious the majority is trusting in you..You can't please all the people all the time and not even some of the time, so do the best you can..God Bless!

I think Randy Wills said everything about his campaign when he attacked the citizens of Pueblo County...after being defeated...for not voting for him. It brought to light his photos on his campaign posters (The Young Guns Attitude and wanting to be Wyatt Earp). The arrogant attitude he has carried throuhgout his life and campaign. He wasn't even gracious enough to thank his supporters. Instead he verbally attacked the very citizens he was niavelly running a mis-guided political campaign to protect. Shame, Shame on you Randy. Your arrogance lost you the campaign and the vote. ARROGANCE. Take a course in Social Skills. A redneck will generally loose in a social environment. Manners amount to alot. Your political posters made you look like an idiot. Alot of people were laughing at you because of the gun and the duster. It's not the "Old West" anymore. A County Sheriff needs to understand County Budgets and the Big Picture. Not Just Guns. Good Luck In Your Life!

If Taylor does not wake up and look towards resolving the internal division that his first four years created; then his final four years will shape his legacy forever as the worst Sheriff to have held office in the history of Pueblo County. He now has the opportunity to use this victory to begin mending fences in his workforce and gain the respect of his employees that he lost. The public deserves this and so do the men and women who put it on the line daily for the citizens, and in doing so make him look good. The choice is his. Unfortunately his track record points to the fact that he will make the wrong choice and further erode the office.

OK, Kirk, we have given you a second chance. Now it's time to undo the black-eyes your command staff have given you lately. I sure hope this time around they help you shine and not give your reputation more 'shiners'. Character - I believe was your motto...lets see some - clean up the mess that has been revealed over the last couple of weeks. We cannot afford to lose any more veteran law enforcement officers. ALL OF YOUR EMPLOYEES DESERVE TO BE TREATED FAIRLY. I'm sure that just like in any other workplace the real men and women want FAIR AND EQUAL TREATMENT - NOT SPECIAL TREATMENT. Now that so much has been revealed you are going to be under the microscope. Best of luck over the next four years. Show them all that you really can be a good leader!

Congratulations Boss! Great campaign, great job! Took the bigger man not to get negative during this election. You stuck to your guns and presented the facts, not smoke and cards games. I do kinda feel sorry for Wills though, I think the former admin whinners and current employed cry babies gave the man misinformation and used him for their personal axe grindings. He should have been smarter though himself and seen this, it might have been closer. He did do a couple of points better than Corsentino though. LOL. Keep up the good work Kirk. As for all you WHINNERS out there, try the truth next time, it will set you free!
