President Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of University of Colorado students in Boulder Tuesday. He talked about student loans.

If Congress doesn’t act by July, the interest rate for new subsidized Stafford loans will double. Obama is pushing for Congress to prevent that increase.

“Once we graduate we have ridiculous amounts of loans and it’s hard to pay them off because a lot of times you end up with a job as a waitress or in retail because it’s hard to find professional work,” student Keli Baker said.

The speech is geared towards college students. For CU students, it is an event they couldn’t miss.

“I think it’s important to know about what’s going on in politics and the country. Also I really like Obama and I think it’ll be interesting to see him speak,” Baker said.

The line for tickets wrapped all the way around a parking lot and went even farther up the street with a number of students that have lined up hours before the tickets were being given away.

Obama's speech is scheduled for 6:30 Tuesday evening.

A small group of about 30 protested Obama.

The last president to visit Boulder was Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, when he dedicated what is now the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
