Local firefighters and police just learned they will be getting a raise.

Colorado Springs City Council voted to approve that raise Tuesday night. The vote was unanimously in favor of the raise on second reading, a repeat of the vote on the first reading a few weeks ago.

The raises, which will cost $1.4 million, will give each firefighter and police officers a raise of between $2,000 and $8,000 a year, depending on their position.

The raises will be retroactive to April 1 of this year and last for the remainder of the fiscal year.
