Denver will not be hosting the Republican National Convention in 2016.

The RNC announced Wednesday that Cleveland and Dallas are their finalists.

Denver was among the final four cities in contention, and even received a recent visit from members of the RNC. Kansas City, Missouri was the other city dropped from the running Wednesday.

Of the remaining cities, both boast attributes that could potential give either an edge. Ohio is a hotly-contested swing state, and was critical to President Obama's 2012 victory over Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Dallas has ties to the Bush family, with former president George W. Bush settling there after he left office. There are also a number of wealthy Republican donors who hail from the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.
