Many veterans return from serving their country overseas only to find themselves flailing in the job market.

President Obama is promoting new ways to help veterans find jobs in a tough economy, and plans to meet Monday with leading veterans' groups to discuss steps to make navigating the job market easier.

About 12 percent of post-9/11 veterans are unemployed, higher than the national average of 9 percent. Veterans advocates say fears among employers about redeployment and mental health issues, as well as the difficulty many soldiers have in translating skills honed in the military to a civilian setting, play a role in veterans' employment struggles.

With deployment in Iraq concluding in less than two months, and the Afghanistan War beginning to wind down, unemployment among veterans could become a much more urgent issues as more and more servicemembers are brought home for good.

A "Veteran Gold Card," which would allow for six months of personalized career counseling and case management, and a jobs bank that lists openings from companies looking to hire veterans are a couple of ideas the president is expected to announce Monday.

Obama is also pressing Congress to approve tax credits for businesses to hire former members of the military.

Great speech, Barry. It's always good to remind us that the USA is numero uno even though it isn't.

The only reason for the globalists to bring the troops home now would be to put another nail in the economic coffin.
