The president is making headlines in South Korea, not for the nuclear conference he's attending, but what he said to Russia's president.

An open microphone recorded a conversation between President Obama and outgoing Russian President Dmitry Mededev. Obama was overheard asking Mededev for "space" on the issue of missile defense, saying he would have much more flexibility after the election.

The White House said the comments reflect political reality: it's difficult to get things done in an election year, adding that domestic issues are keeping Obama from addressing long-standing problems with Russia.
