New Minor Political Party Recognized In Colorado

After submitting a petition with 12,191 valid signatures, the "Americans Elect" party will be recognized by the state as a minor political party.

The Secretary of State's Office received the petition on November 8. Although they rejected nearly 6,000 signatures as invalid, the petitions still had more than the 10,000 required under state law.

The Colorado Secretary of State says voter registration forms will soon be updated to include the party.

The party is already qualified to list a candidate in the states of Arkansas, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Utah.

The party's website describes itself as the "first nonpartisan presidential nomination."

They say their purpose is to nominate a presidential ticket that will put the "country before their party, and American interests before special interests."
