The increasingly scandal-plagued IRS faces more scrutiny on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

The IRS is accused of spending about $50 million in taxpayer money on fancy hotel suites during employee conferences between 2010-2012. The inspector general is expected to release a report about the matter Tuesday.

The new acting commissioner of the IRS, Daniel Werfel, has acknowledged that the agency violated the public's trust, and has pledged to work with both internal and external forces to make sure that such "significant and alarming" problems with the IRS would be corrected in the future.

Werfel has ordered a comprehensive review of the agency and is proposing more transparency in evaluations of potential 501(c)4 organizations.

Members of conservative groups targeted by the IRS will testify Tuesday.
