GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A judge has recused himself from a criminal case against state Sen. Steve King, saying he has a conflict of interest.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports Mesa County District Judge Thomas Deister announced the decision Friday. He didn't offer any details of the conflict.
King was issued a summons Wednesday on charges of embezzlement, forgery theft and official misconduct.
Prosecutors allege he falsified time cards and defrauded the Mesa County Sheriff's Department and Colorado Mesa University of up to $5,000 when he worked for them.
He hasn't entered a plea. He didn't immediately respond Saturday to an email or a phone message left at his office.
King, a Republican, was elected to the Legislature in 2006.
