GOP Campaign Shifts To The South

Most of the GOP presidential candidates will campaign in the South Friday.

It's home to a conservative base, and each candidate has a lot riding on a strong finish in next Tuesday's primaries in Alabama and Mississippi.

Mitt Romney, still considered a weak frontrunner after eking out a win in Ohio over Rick Santorum, has been fighting an uphill battle with conservative voters throughout the primary season. Consistently, exit polls have showed moderate Republicans favoring Romney, while Santorum and Newt Gingrich divide the conservative vote. Romney didn't do well in the South four years ago.

Santorum and Gingrich are both eying the South as potential victories; Gingrich needs the wins the most to justify staying in the race. Santorum's campaign has called for Gingrich to drop out, as they believe Gingrich is siphoning votes from Santorum and allowing Romney to win states he would have otherwise lost.

Ron Paul is still looking for his first win, but insists he'll stay in the race all the way to the convention.
