Voters in El Paso County passed an increase to sales tax Tuesday. About 60 percent of voters were in favor of the measure. Since it passed for every 10 dollars you spend, it will be about two cents more in El Paso County.

11 News talked to voters who say they felt compelled to pass the measure, “We are a growing community and as a growing community I think we need all facets of police and sheriff and this is one way to keep that going,” Daniel Romero said.

Sheriff Terry Maketa told 11 News when he first proposed the measure that he’s simply being honest with voters. He asked for more money four years ago and didn’t get it.
