Resolution FAQ - (Stacia Naquin)

A Congressional Commission has dismissed a complaint against Congressman Doug Lamborn. The complaint, which was filed by his same-party competitor for reelection, alleged a mailer was in violation of the congressional privilege known as “Franking.”
Robert Blaha, the Republican challenger for the 5th district seat, formal complaint with that Franking Commission, claiming Lamborn used tax dollars to send a mailer for the purpose of self-promotion. The Commission has now replied with a letter to Blaha’s attorney, a copy of which was provided to KKTV by Lamborn’s office.
Franking is a privilege provided to Member of Congress, allowing them to send mail under their signature and without postage. All of the mail sent this way is reviewed by a bipartisan commission before being sent.
According to that letter, which is signed by Chairman Aaron Schock and Ranking Member Susan Davis, “the Commission finds there is not substantial reason to believe that any violation of the Franking laws and regulations had occurred and respectfully dismisses the complaint.”
Blaha had alleged the mailer broke the rules by promoting his leadership resume and mentioning political slogans. At the time, he said Lamborn’s alleged abuse of the privilege “typifies the entitlement mentality of the permanent political class.”
Firing back after the complaint was dismissed, Lamborn’s office called it “unfounded, mean-spirited attack.”
“As we said from the start, this was an unfounded allegation made by an individual who shows stunning ignorance of the most basic operations of Congress,” Lamborn’s office said.
