A Colorado woman who studies Middle Eastern politics is among the 32 American students selected as the newest Rhodes Scholars.

Meredith Lukens Wheeler of Fort Collins is a senior at Stanford who is majoring in history and political science. She has researched comparative democratization, post-coup repression and Islamic party politics in Egypt, as well as Islamic political organizations in Morocco.

The prestigious Rhodes Scholarships provide all expenses for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England, where Wheeler plans to continue her studies of the Middle East.

This year's Rhodes Scholars, who were announced Sunday, were selected from 857 applicants endorsed by 327 colleges and universities.
