CO GOP Chief Drops Out of Race for New Term

Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams has decided not to seek a third term, saying he's tired of those who don't understand the party's role.

Wadhams sent a memo Monday to the state GOP State Central Committee announcing his decision. He complained of people "obsessed with seeing conspiracies around every corner." He says that he loved being chairman but is tired of "the nuts who have no grasp of what the state party's role is."

Wadhams was criticized last year as former GOP congressman Tom Tancredo declared the party's gubernatorial candidates unable to beat Democrat John Hickenlooper and entered the race on the American Constitution Party ticket. Hickenlooper won.

State Sen. Ted Harvey of Highlands Ranch is running for GOP chairman.

He's right. Conspiracy theories are an illness. It's not about the theory, it's about believing that someone in authority is out to get you. They move from theory to theory as each one is proven wrong, constantly maintaining only their preferred level of distrust and fear. Why they seem to come out of the Republican party more than others is a fact that I'll leave to the conspiracy theorists, but it is also a fact that it's killing this particular political party through several forms of attrition, including those who run from the madness. The fact that they can't all work together as a unit is disturbing given that they are a major political party, but it's also a sign that they aren't ready to lead. So this is all as it should be.

Maybe Mr. Wadhams is one of the "establishment" Reps who just don't get it. America is waking up to the fact that Globalization is largely responsible for our current severe recession. The focus has been to turn America into a service oriented economy and it's only serving to prove that a healthy economy has to be a diverse economy with jobs in many fields. America cannot be a country of paper shufflers and export our industrial base thus becoming dependent on importing all of our consumer goods. The inbalance of that idea is shown by our massive trade deficits over the last several decades. Maybe Mr. Wadham's replacement will recognize the problem, put America first, and not think Americans are nuts.
