The host committee for the Democratic National Convention is facing a possible shortfall of $15 million on the day of the fundraising deadline.
The committee is under contract with the Democratic National Committee to raise $40.6 million by midnight Monday to finance the event.
Last month, the host committee said it had just $25 million in cash, and it has failed to meet most of its previous fundraising deadlines.
A shortfall would complicate logistics for the Aug. 25-28 convention.
The cash problem already has forced the host committee to cancel 24 welcoming parties and to postpone a media walkthrough of the site scheduled for this week.
