Controversial State Representative Douglas Bruce has some competition on his hands.

Colorado Springs Attorney Mark Waller will be running against Bruce in the House District 15 Republican Primary in August.

Bruce made headlines for kicking a photographer on the floor of the House and calling migrant workers "illiterate peasants." But, Waller tells 11 News that's not why he's running against him.

"I believe I can got Denver and effectively communicate our Republican ideals and values. I don't think it's enough to go there and grandstand and have petty bickering,' said Waller, 'I want to show people that not only am I not Douglas Bruce. But, I'm the right guy for the job."

"Doesn't bother me. Anybody has the right to run. Even a political unknown," said Bruce.

Bruce argues Waller doesn't have political experience. Waller thinks the leadership and communication skills he's developed over the years, serving in the Air Force and as a former Deputy District Attorney, will help him be an effective lawmaker.
