Former President Bill Clinton is said to regret his comments he made about an unflattering article in Vanity Fair.

Clinton said the writer of the 9,500-word piece is "slimy" and "a dishonest guy." He said it's not the first dishonest piece the writer has done on him or his wife, and shows the bias of the media for Barack Obama.

When Clinton was reminded that the writer, Todd Purdum, is married to Clinton's former press secretary, Dee Dee Myers, Clinton said, "That's all right -- he's still a scumbag."

A spokesman for Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign says the former president is "understandably upset," but that the language he used "was inappropriate."

The former president's remarks appeared on the online Huffington Post.
