Former Gov. Owens: Obama Lacks Experience To Be President

Former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens says Democrat Barack Obama lacks the experience to be an effective president and predicted that Coloradans would vote for Republican John McCain.

Owens, a Republican who served as governor from 1999 through 2006, said Wednesday he plans to campaign actively for McCain and to make experience an issue.

Owens compared Obama with former President Jimmy Carter and said Carter showed the presidency "is not the place for on-the-job training."

Owens predicts national security and taxes will be major issues in the campaign.

He says Obama's plans to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq would be a disaster and says McCain wants to end the war on "honorable terms."
