Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton says the attempt on the life of the president of Afghanistan shows the U.S. has failed to give proper attention to that country.
The Taliban is claiming responsibility for the assault that missed President Hamid Karzai but killed three others at a ceremony in Kabul. Gunman opened fire during an anniversary ceremony marking the mujahedeen victory over the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.
Clinton notes she has met Karzai and says, "He is a brave man trying under very difficult circumstances to hold that country together, and we have not given him the resources he needs."
Clinton, speaking at a rally in North Carolina, says Afghanistan needs to get "as much, if not more attention" than Iraq.
