Barack Obama's former pastor says publicizing sound bites of sermons in which he condemned U.S. policies was "unfair" and "devious."

In a PBS interview airing Friday tonight, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright says his comments have been publicized by people who know nothing about his church.

Wright says that, as an activist, he's accustomed to being "at odds with the establishment," but the response to the sermons has been "very, very unsettling."

This is the first interview Wright has given since video of his preaching gained national attention in March and put Obama on the defensive.

The controversy forced Obama to explain his 20-year association with the minister, who's retiring from Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
