Former President George H.W. Bush has endorsed Sen. John McCain's bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Bush, speaking with McCain at his side in Texas Monday, said the Arizonan has "character forged in the crucible of war" and said he thought McCain was best prepared to lead the nation in the future.

Bush said the United States does not have "the luxury of taking a pass" on its responsibilities in an increasingly complex world.
