Senator Barack Obama says he's spoken with John Edwards about how to move the Democratic Party "in a direction that focuses on middle class issues."
Obama commented to WITI-TV in Milwaukee Sunday night, hours after leaving reporters behind and flying to North Carolina for a secret meeting with his former rival.
Edwards has reportedly been torn over whether to back Obama or Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The former North Carolina senator is said to be concerned that Obama may not be ready for the presidency and that his health care plan is inferior. But during his campaign, Edwards was highly critical of Clinton's policies, her ties to special interests and her character.
An Obama spokesman won't comment on the possibility of an Edwards endorsement.
