Hillary Rodham Clinton is reaching into her own pocket and loaning her campaign $5 million.
Barack Obama has outraised and outspent the New York senator in the presidential race, raking in $32 million in January alone. Clinton raised $13.5 million for the month, not counting her $5 million loan. Her campaign is looking to raise $3 million online over the next three days.
Clinton's chief strategist says the campaign has the funds to compete, but will likely be outspent again.
A slew of states that appear to be swaying toward Obama will vote over the next week. Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington cast their ballots Saturday and Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia hold primaries Tuesday.
Clinton is counting on winning in Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania -- all expensive states for campaigning.
