As part of the initial investigation authorities reported the deputies tried to stop Vargas, who was driving a stolen car, when she was seen at the Chief Motel in Colorado Springs. Those reports indicated Vargas drove out of the parking lot. In the process and ran over a deputy’s foot.
After being hit by the car, the deputy reportedly fired one round into the car. According to the witness, including himself, there were four people in the car that night, including Brittney Angel who is still at large.
"I was stuck there having to watch my home girl die in my arms," he said.

Vargas died and was found hours later in the car which was left in the Memorial Hospital parking lot.
