The crook who made international headlines after robbing a Springs Walgreens disguised in a wig and eye patch may have struck again.

Police are not 100 percent certain that the suspect behind Friday's attempted robbery is the same man that robbed the Walgreens on May 22, but say that the suspect description is the same.

"He wasn't wearing an eye patch this time," a CSPD officer told 11 News.

Walgreens employees say "without a doubt" this man was the same suspect as the guy dubbed "the pirate" who robbed the store in May. They say his beard and mustache were shorter than last time.

At 3 a.m. Friday, police say a man clad in a fake beard and mustache tried to rob a Walgreens on the 900 block of North Circle, the same Walgreens struck in May. The suspect headed straight for the pharmacy.

His robbery attempt was thwarted when the manager alerted the pharmacy to his presence, which was quickly secured. Once the suspect realized he had been seen, police say he ran out of the store. He reportedly escaped through an ally on the southside of the store.

The suspect has been described as a white man, 5-foot-8 and medium build. The Walgreens manager believes he saw a handgun inside the backpack the suspect was carrying.

Anyone with information about this attempted crime are asked to call police, or call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.

An armed suspect, disguised in a wig and eye patch, leaped over a pharmacy counter on the morning of May 22, making off with an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs. The incident is now getting international attention after Springs police released surveillance footage from the robbery Thursday.

CSPD reported Saturday that the story attracted the attention of the Daily Mail, a newspaper out of London.

Police are hoping that despite the disguise, someone will recognize the suspect from the surveillance footage and come forward.

"He's a very dangerous guy and may be desperate," said police spokesperson, Sgt. Steve Noblitt Thursday.

According to police, a man entered a Walgreens on the 900 block of N. Circle just before 4 a.m. He approached the pharmacist with a handgun, demanding medication. Once the clerk complied, the suspect left the scene on foot.

Noblitt couldn't say if the man is connected to a number of similar robberies at other local Walgreens, or what he's using the drugs for.

Shoppers have their own suspicions.

"People are just hard off these days," said Loretta Motley. "They do what they have to do to survive and unfortunately don't care if it hurts anyone else."

Along with the black shoulder-length wig and eye patch worn over the left eye, police tell 11 News that the suspect was wearing a lab coat and latex gloves at the time of the robbery. He has been described as a white male in his 20s, about 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds.

"There may be enough distinguishing characteristics of which you can see, that you might be able to recognize who that is," said Noblitt.

Anyone with any information on this crime is asked to contact police, or call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
