Two suspects wanted for murder, 39-year-old Jerry Van Gundy and 52-year-old Loretta Santistevan, both of Trinidad, have been arrested. Trinidad police had been looking for the duo.
The charges stem from a July 2010 assault. The victim, Lucille Garcia, later died from her injuries. Garcia, was found unresponsive after the assault. She was initially rushed to Mt. San Rafael Hospital, and then transferred via Flight for Life to St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo. She died after being removed from life support on July 28, 2010.
Authorities say Van Gundy and Santistevan each face charges of first degree murder, as well as charges for sexual assault with a weapon, causing serious bodily injury, aided by another person on an incapacitated victim.
They are now behind bars at the Las Animas County Jail without bond.
