Updated: 05/14/2013 - I'm still focused on meeting my goal of doing a pull-up. And I'm almost there! But I'm always getting this question:
It's the ultimate Grinch story: while a family went Christmas shopping, crooks targeted their home, destroying all their decorations.
The family says they headed to the store Sunday night, and after shopping for a couple of hours returned to find their yard a mess: lights ripped apart, animal decorations with the heads kicked off.
The homeowner tells 11 News that her two young girls are devastated to see the vandalism.
The family says their neighborhood, near Union and Dublin in Colorado Springs, is quiet and typically does not experience this type of crime.
Police say they have taken a handful of reports regarding Christmas property crimes this holiday season, but that this type of crime is not on rise in Colorado Springs.
Officers advise those decorating their homes to set a timer or turn off the lights by 10 or 11 p.m., so that crooks can't see the lights, possibly deterring them from vandalizing the home.
Those responsible for Sunday night's vandalism face criminal mischief charges. If you have any information, call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
