A homeless man was asleep in a culvert under Midland Trail when he was awakened and shot several times by two young men.
The man told News 11 “I was just sleeping, saw light, and then, boom, boom, boom.”
“I tried to run after them” he said, “but the little guys were just a little faster than me and after a couple of blocks I just fell, and my pants were just dripping blood.”
According to Colorado Springs Police, the homeless victim was shot around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Police were notified of the shooting just after noon, and say the victim suffered non-life threatening wounds to his legs.
Midland Trail is located near the intersection of Vermijo and 17th Streets.
The two suspects were described as white males in their teens or early twenties. Both were relatively short, with slight builds. One was wearing a blue short, the other was wearing a black shirt and both wore black hats backward.
One of the suspects shined a flashlight in the victim’s eyes while the other pulled the trigger.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7807).
