Suspect Accused Of Second Armed Robbery

An armed robber tried to rob a southwest side bank late Monday morning. Less than 48 hours later, police have apprehended a suspect.

Police are now investigating whether Matthew Alan Ray, 27, has been involved in other robberies around the city.

According to police, the suspect, now believed to be Ray, tried to hold up the Key Bank at 1521 S. 8th St. in Colorado Springs. Police are uncertain if he was able to get any money. Though the suspect was armed with a handgun, no one was injured.

The suspect took off on foot from the bank, and was last seen heading eastbound on 8th Street.

Officers were able to compile enough information after the robbery to narrow the search to Ray, and obtained a search warrant for his arrest less than 24 hours after the robbery. On Tuesday, Ray was spotted driving on Delmonico Drive near Rockrimmon Boulevard. Police pulled Ray over on the 100 block of Rockrimmon and arrested him.

Additionally, Ray was identified as a suspect in the robbery of the Vectra Bank located at 7390 N. Academy Blvd. on April 27. During that robbery, police allege that Ray revealed a gun to a teller and demanded money. He left on foot, but somehow avoided police when the area was searched.
