Police say they are looking for a man who approached a 9-year-old girl and asked her if she wanted to see "man parts". It happened near Carmel Middle School on Sumter drive.
Allen Metz says his daughter was waiting for an ice cream truck when the man drove up in a white 4-door hatchback, possibly a Volvo. The child backed away from the vehicle and told him no. The suspect then said he would give her a dollar.
Metz says she waits on the sidewalk everyday.
"We didn't expect something like that to happen it was a normal day she was waiting on the ice cream truck like she always does," Metz says.
The child’s mother came out of the front door of the house, and the suspect sped away.
Jan Isaacs-Henry is the Executive Director of a non-profit called Kidpower, teaching kids about safety.
She says it's important to teach children it can happen to them
"Its really important to teach kids to trust there intuition if they sense danger, it's probably there and they need to go as quickly as they can and get adult help," she said.
Jan says it's important to practice a very specific plan.
Metz says they had one, and his little girl knew exactly what to do.
"She did the right thing she backed away told him no, and backed away," he said.
He says that plan may have saved his daughter's life.
The victim described the suspect as a man in his late 20's early 30's with buzz cut strawberry blond hair. He was wearing light blue jeans and a black shirt with a purple squiggle and circle on the front.
