Crooks could be posing as traveling salesmen in order to steal mail.
Colorado Springs police are investigating the possibility after receiving a call about suspicious behavior from a group of vacuum cleaner salesmen in the Skyview neighborhood off Cresta Road Tuesday afternoon.
According to the witness, one of the men opened a box on a neighbor's porch, then shoved the contents down his pants. The witness told police that the man then rejoined the group of salesman, and they all took off in a white Dodge Caravan. The witness tracked the vehicle down elsewhere in the neighborhood, and reported seeing the suspects throw several pieces of mail out of the van.
Police have located the van, and are now working to identify the suspects. At this time, officers have not determined if the men were actually selling vacuums, or using it as a cover. Officers also do not know if the incident the witness reporting seeing was isolated, or if more packages and mail were stolen in the neighborhood.
If you believe you saw the suspects in your neighborhood, contact police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
