Neighbors Told To 'Shelter In Place' During Domestic Dispute


People were ordered to stay in their homes late Friday night as officers tried to end a domestic disturbance safely.

Springs police say that the disturbance, which happened at a home on the 1500 block of Monterey Road, started as an argument but escalated when the man prevent the victim from leaving. Police told 11 News that a weapon was involved, but no injuries were reported.

During the situation, neighbors in a two-block radius were told to "shelter in place," meaning to stay where they were and not leave their houses. Officers were then able to safely get the woman out of the home. They are still looking for the male suspect. He has been identified as 55-year-old Metris G. Smith, and he's wanted on several misdemeanor domestic violence charges.
