Police in Pueblo are crediting a Crime Stoppers tip with leading them to the arrest of a shooting suspect named Jerry Jaques.

According to police, Jaques confronted the shooting victim Thursday evening in the 2600 block of Sprague. Investigators say Jaques fired at least five shots at the 28-year-old victim, with one hitting him in the leg. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

On Sunday afternoon, a Crime Stoppers tip led Pueblo Police and County Sheriff's Deputies to 1100 block of 25th Lane. At first, Jaques refused to respond as officers surrounded the house.

Eventually, gas was sent into the house and Jaques was found hiding in a crawl space around 9:20 p.m. He was shocked with a stun gun and taken into custody for first degree assault with a deadly weapon.

11 News has learned more about the suspect and last week’s shooting.

According to an arrest affidavit, police say Jerry Jaques is a known gang member. His girlfriend reportedly threatened to leave him if he didn’t quit the gang.

The girlfriend then asked Jaques’ friend to talk to Jaques about leaving the gang life. Jaques reportedly became angry after the break-up and shot his friend in the leg for speaking on the girlfriend’s behalf. He even threatened that she would be next.

11 News also learned that Jaques was arrested at the girlfriend’s house. It is unclear what he was doing there, but police do say they seized several firearms form the house.

The shooting victim was able to pick Jaques out of a lineup. Jaques is also suspected in another unrelated shooting, where he fired four to five shots at an ex-brother-in-law.

Jaques is being held on $75,000 bond.

Police say the investigation continues.
