It was a close call for a man who managed to avoid an armed robbery Monday, but the would-be assailants are still on the loose.

Colorado Springs police say a 41-year-old man was walking home from work near the intersection of N. Carefree Circle and Picturesque Circle Monday when two men walked by him, then doubled back and accosted him. The men demanded money while wielding at least one gun.

The man refused to give them anything and swung a backpack at the them, prompting them to run away.

The victim was able to make it home safely before calling police. K9 Officer Bauer and his dog Rico attempted a track and despite not finding the suspects, found some evidence. Police now suspect the men may be connected to a robbery a week ago, in the vicinity of S. Carefree Circle and Avondale Drive, where a man who had just crashed his bike was assaulted and robbed.

The suspects are described as a black man, 20-30 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing a dark hoodie and holding a hand gun. The other suspect is described as an unknown race, 20-30 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing a dark coat.
