Police Ask For Help Locating Shooting Suspect

Police hope the public can help to find a suspect believed to be responsible for shooting a man several times in an intersection early Monday morning.

Tuesday, Police identified the suspect as Roy Locklear and announced a warrant for his arrest. He is facing the charge of attempted first degree murder.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, Colorado Springs Police learned that a man in his early 20s had been shot multiple times in the intersection of Carmel Drive and Del Mar Drive, just east of South Circle on the southeast side of town. Officers found the victim, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover, however he is currently in critical but stable condition.

One neighbor told 11 News he heard men arguing and women screaming just before three or four gunshots were fired. According to the witness, the argument might have been about a car, as he recalled hearing someone yell "That's my car!" around the time of the shooting.

"They kept screaming at each other back and forth. I heard them for a while, then after awhile the screaming got more intense, and as it got more intense I heard about three or four gunshots," Alex Enriquez told 11 News.

Enriquez said he didn't realize what happened until he looked out his window and saw the victim lying in the street.

"It's pretty scary...I could hear everything very clearly because it was so close, right at our gate. I looked out the window and that man is lying there after he's been shot. I was pretty scared because I didn't know where the guy had ran to, to escape from police," said Enriquez.

Enriquez say the neighborhood is not very safe, and he has heard gunshots before. But nothing as scary as this.

Anyone with information on Locklear’s whereabouts is asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
