The Drowsy Chaperone (Don Ward)

Several horses were found abandoned and barely alive in Southern Colorado and now a cash reward is being offered for anyone who can help find the owner.
The horses were found in a rural area near san Luis, Colorado in Costilla County. They’re now at the Harmony Equine Center getting treatment. Employees at the Equine Center say the group of horses was in the worst condition they’ve ever seen. The horses were so malnourished and sick that one even had to be put down. The remaining five are in a special quarantined barn getting extra care.
“The horses appeared to be real sick, malnourished, dehydrated and in really bad shape. My thought was oh my god these poor creatures,” said Duane Adams with the Harmony Equine Center.
Employees at the Harmony Equine Center have high hopes for the horses. They say it will take several months but once they’re nursed back to health they could be adoptable.
The person found responsible for this animal neglect could face up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 dollar fine.
A cash reward of up to $2,000 dollars is being offered for anyone who may have tips regarding this incident.
Information about the horses can be reported to the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office at (719) 672-0673, the Colorado Humane Society at (800) 249-5121 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867).
The Harmony Equine Center will host open house Horse Adoption Day on June 16th from 10am-3pm.
