Intruders kicked in the door of a ground level apartment Friday morning, only to get more than they bargained for when the homeowner retaliated.

According to the homeowner, three strangers knocked on his door just before 3 a.m. After he locked his door, the suspects forced their way inside.

Police say the homeowner saw that the suspects were armed and fired his own weapon at them. He shot at the suspects three times, scaring them off. None of the bullets hit them, but the suspects got spooked and ran away.

The incident happened at the Citadel West Apartments on Tia Juana Street, which is near Circle and Platte in Colorado Springs. Officers searched the neighborhood, but were unable to locate the suspects.

Suspect descriptions are limited at this time. Police say the intruders were two men and a woman. One of the men was black, the other's race was unknown. The woman was mixed-race. Their ages are unknown.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Springs police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
