A Springs family was spending a quiet evening at home when they were threatened by a man with a gun.
The family heard a light tapping at the door just after 9 p.m. Sunday. The male homeowner opened the door just a crack and saw a man standing there with his gun pointed at him.
The homeowner tells 11 News he quickly shut and locked the door. He went to get his gun and says he was willing to use it in order to protect himself and his family.
Police say the suspect made no further effort to get inside, and appeared to flee after the homeowner locked the door.
We are told police K-9s followed a very short trail of foot steps until they disappeared, suggesting the suspect may have had a car waiting.
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 20s, around 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, last seen wearing a teal hoodie. The homeowner says that the weapon the suspect was carrying looked like a semi-automatic handgun.
The family lives on the 7800 block of Scarborough Drive, which is near Woodmen and Austin Bluffs.
Police warn the public not to answer their doors at night, especially if you aren't expecting anyone.
If you have any information that could help police in their search call Crime Stoppers at 634-stop.
