Surveillance in GameStop Robbery

2012 isn't quite two months old, but already GameStop has been struck four times in Colorado Springs.

11 News has obtained surveillance video from the most recent robbery. The suspect struck on February 11 at a northside GameStop. It marked the fourth time the chain has been targeted this calendar year.

Investigators say these types of robberies are becoming an alarming trend.

GameStop is hoping to put a stop to the string of robberies by offering a $2,000 reward to anyone that can help put the person or persons responsible behind bars. The suspect description in each of the robberies is similar enough that police believe there is a possibility the crimes could be related.

In the most recent robbery, an armed man walked into the GameStop on North Academy shortly before 9 p.m. and robbed the store at gunpoint. The gunman forced the two employees inside to empty the cash register, then made them lie on the floor.

In total, the suspect was in and out in less than two minutes, and people want him caught.

"It would be kind of nice if we could get the crime here under control,” Shauna Cordial said. “It's the GameStops, the Walgreens--they've had multiple robberies."

On January 20, a man held up the GameStop on South Academy Road. Just a few days later, someone backed their truck through the window of the GameStop on Space Center Drive. Then, two days later, a gunman held up that same GameStop.

The suspect in each robbery has been described as a black man in his 20s, with a heavy build. Witnesses have typically described the suspect as close to 6 feet in height, though in February's robbery, witnesses described him as shorter, about 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-9.

Anyone with information on any of these crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
