DA: Homicide Outside Bar Justified As Self Defense

No charges will be filed in connection with a death outside a Colorado Springs bar in November. The District Attorney says it was justified as self-defense.

Police were called to the parking lot of Hondo's Sports Bar on the 4600 block of Centennial Blvd. around 2:11 a.m. on November 26 because of a reported fight. As the crowd broke up, officers spotted William Joshua Landrum lying on the ground, his head and face bleeding extensively.

Landrum was taken to Penrose Hospital where he later died.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, several fights broke out in the parking lot that night, including one near the bar’s front entrance. This altercation involved Nicholas Blunt and other men, possibly including Landrum.

The DA found that Blunt tried to run from the fight, but was chased by ten or eleven other people. He picked up a rock as he was running away and threw it. They say Blunt never intended to kill anyone or expected that anyone would die.

Physical evidence and surveillance video supports Blunt’s story, the DA says. Additionally, Blunt was not impaired by alcohol.

Landrum, however, had been drinking at Hondo’s and had a blood alcohol level at twice the legal limit.

The DA says that under state law, a person can use physical force upon another person to defend himself and may use the degree of force that he reasonably believes to be necessary for that purpose.

I'm glad someone stood up to him and the large group of thugs going after this man! His death would never have happened if he hadn't gone after this man with that group. Obviously his intentions weren't peaceful, thus he reaped what he sowed. So quit punting him as an innocent full of love, and making excuses for his illicit behavior. Had he not been doing this, he wouldn't be dead? The DA already said it was self defense. Too hard to accept the fact Josh was the aggressor, not the victim? He got what he deserved!

Im glad Josh is dead! He was drunk awhile back and started talking smack to me because I was in his way at a local joint. I knew him back in the day and he was truly confrontational and nasty with me. Hence I couldn't back myself up because he had 4 buddies of his flanking me. He is a bully when he is drunk. I'm glad this pos is dead, let the demons in hell bully him now. Hundred bucks says the girls sticking up for him on here were stuck by him at some point! Oh, I am not afraid to post my real name on here. See you in hell scumbag!

yep, they're brave when they're drunk, with 10 or 11 others against one...A good example of "make my day" law, with a rock!Glad it was ruled self-defense.

He was such a good friend to all of these people. A shame none of his friends took any steps to save him. Public mourning does nothing for the mourned. Just another selfish act by people caught up in their own life. You could have saved this kid.

Thank you to Hondos for having such a special moment with all the family and people who care and love this great man last night. You have showed the famlly there are still good people and ones that showed true compassion for this situation, it was nice to have some peace about this and not just seeing some of the rude, disgusting and terrible things people have said not knowing what really happened or knowing this young man.

Most of these comments disgust me. First of all, get over yourself. Spare us all your opinions on someone you never have and never will have the honor to meet. And shame on you for “judging a book by its cover”. A family is in mourning over the loss of a brother and son and some of you have the audacity to look him up on facebook and JUDGE. I worked with Josh and Caye years ago and I have to say that aside from him being fun to work with and a gentleman, Josh truly was a kind hearted person. Many times he was my ride home from work. I would walk up to my door and he would wait in his car until I was in the house and the door was closed (any parent with a daughter would appreciate that). I don’t think I ever really thanked him for that or told him how much I appreciated it. Another one of his qualities was if you ever needed someone to talk to, he was your man. Josh was a genuine man with a big heart that DESERVES the respect he always gave. e doesn’t deserve the foul, insensitive comments and his family shouldn’t have to read them either. Josh was a great guy that will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Caye. I’m so sorry this happened; they will find who did this.

josh was my best friend, you'd never meet a more honest or hard working guy. someone who would go to the mat for you in a heartbeat. there never was a truer friend than him. he will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and if you didnt and have something negative to say, keep your @*&$(* comments to yourself.
