A suspect wielding a sledgehammer has stolen thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a K-Mart in El Paso County.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says the suspect walked into the store at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the K-Mart on Palmer Park and Powers. He made a bee-line for the jewelry counter and smashed the display case with the sledgehammer. Deputies received several 911 calls reporting the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male, dressed in a white hoodie, jeans and a dark-brimmed ball cap. His face was concealed by an orange bandana. A white late-90s model Chevy or GMC 4-door S-10 style Blazer may be associated with this robbery.

If you have any information about this crime, you are asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 390-5555.
