Presents stolen and a home ransacked.
A devastated mother is now trying to figure out how to still give her five children a Christmas after criminals broke into her home and stole all of their presents.
"I'm going to try my best to get something for them, but I'm just going to appreciate that I have my family for the holidays out of everything else," Sally Herrera said.
The break-in happened at a mobile home park near Astrozon and Powers in Colorado Springs. Sally Herrera said she was out of town with her kids taking care of her sick mom when crooks tore through her place.
"They took everything of value and flipped my room inside out."
Herrera said the crooks trashed her home, going through every drawer and throwing things everywhere. They even broke down her bedroom door--the room where she was hiding her children's gifts.
"I was hiding them so they didn't know about them."
Herrera said the crooks even broke into the storage sheds outside her home and stole just about everything of value. In all, thousands of dollars worth of stuff was stolen.
Police told 11 News Christmas presents are an easy target when they are left under a tree or hidden within view of a window.
In Herrera's case, they said, she did everything right.
"It's heartbreaking," Herrera told 11 News. "I'm glad my family is safe...but it's just not right."
She told 11 News that the extra money she did have was supposed to go towards home repairs. Herrera's family is also growing; she has a sixth child on the way.
Officers don't have a suspect in this case. If you have any information that can help catch the crooks, you are asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
