The suspect and method of a recent robbery of a video game store in Colorado Springs seems to fit the description of a suspect nicknamed the "Waistline Bandit."
The nickname comes from the way the suspect displays his weapon during the crimes. He walks into the target businesses, lifts his shirt, and shows victims the gun tucked in the front of his waistline.
The suspect in the July 10 robbery of the Game Stop on 1908 Southgate Rd. followed that same pattern, according to a narrative of the crime provided by Colorado Springs police. CSPD also reported he verbally confronted two customers before receiving cash from the employees and leaving the store on foot.
In that case, CSPD described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male, early to mid 20s, approximately 5-foot-9 with a thin build. He was wearing a white shirt, dark jeans and a black beanie.
Surveillance photos of the “Waistline Bandit” released by the Aurora Police Department show a suspect who fits that same description – including one that shows a matching shirt and hat.
CSPD originally said they could not confirm the case in Colorado Springs connected to the same suspect. Later, however, they declared him a "viable suspect."
The "Waistline Bandit" is believed to be responsible for four robberies in Aurora between July 8-11, and four others in Denver between July 4-9.
Aurora Police say they are also aware of a crimes fitting a similar pattern in Texas.
